About me and how the game was birthed...

So often families come together in times of sorrow instead of coming together to laugh and continue to create memories that will last a lifetime. We're changing that and here is why.

Some of my family hang out often, but I know its not the same experience for everyone. I was preparing for our family trip to the beach and came across a trend. People were taking the "Guess Who" game and changing the characters on it. I decided to put all the members of my family who were going on the trip photos over the characters. It was a hit. Nobody wanted to stop playing because it was relatable changing up the characters to our faces. I saw older family members playing with the younger family members and they were having a good time. I even heard my nephew say "This was his favorite part of the trip."

I came home and was watching "The Breakfast Club" and saw an interview with a fellow game creator and she spoke about her game. Naive of me, but I didn't realize we (black people) created games. She spoke about how underrated black people are in the gaming industry and I wanted to be one of the people to change that. We spend so much time playing them, why not make them? I thought about my experience at the beach and I wanted to recreate that experience for every other black family.

I started to think about our stories, our experiences and our humor. We're such a dope culture and no matter who you are or how you say something. We know what you mean. I came up with 150 questions on white index cards. I was preparing for my housewarming in a few days and thought it would be the perfect time to test it out. Everyone loved the game and asked how they could get it? At the time they had no idea this was my game that I had just made up. I knew I had a homerun idea. With no experience at all. I prayed and set out to get this game made. I came up with my design idea to showcase melanin colors and found a designer and manufacturer. My sample came in, I marketed the idea online organically and took preorders. I ended up selling out of my supply.

Things Black People Say is back and rebranded with a new look. Volume 2 is in the works and I look forward to bringing you more experiences you can share with the people you love.
